In deference to the strain my increased rent is putting on my finances, I invested in a good pair of tweezers today. The $5 outlay -- I don't have the money for the top-of-the-line $17 Tweezerman ones -- will save me lots of money in the long run, since I won't have to spend $20 every three weeks getting my eyebrows waxed.

This was the first time I had ever plucked my own eyebrows, in part because I've always thought I'd screw them up. (Hey, I didn't even start waxing them until two years ago. It never occurred to me.) I had always heard that it was really easy to pluck too much, but I didn't believe it because plucking hurts like hell, and I'm pretty pain-adverse. But this hurt less than any salon shaping I've ever had.

Which leads us to the problem: I plucked too much from the middle! I really should have consulted the Internet for the right places to stop and end the brow before I got started, but I didn't. And I never bothered reading the "plucking for dummies" stories in all the glossy mags I devour, so I thought my brows were supposed to start at the inner corner of the eye, not at the edge of the nose. It's a subtle mistake, perhaps -- but it's all I can see!

Mostly, I think I did a pretty good job, but I won't be sure until someone else looks at me and tells me that my brows don't look deformed. If I could figure out how to take a decent pic of myself, I would, and then I'd make you all tell me. But part of me is too scared to ask.
