Moodiness

I'm having an "I hate my job day."

It was one of those mornings when I sat on the couch and wished I could come up with a good reason to call in sick. Of course, I only have three more sick days left for the year, so I have to save them for when I'm really sick. And if I called in every time I didn't want to come to this place, I'd work only four days a week.

So I got up, showered, and got to work about 25 minutes late. Then I got to deal with the Biatch from Hell on the phone.

See, even though I put together a free listing of info on the recently deceased, I am still a REPORTER. And the public does not get to tell journalists how or when something will appear in the paper.

Unfortunately, today's Biatch from Hell called up with an entitlement complex. She demanded a free listing, gave me the information, then said, "And I need it to run Sunday." I asked why, because if the paid obituary is running Sunday, then I could hold it a day. She told me that she wanted it in on Sunday because more people read that paper. I told her, politely, that she didn't get to choose the running date, that I was a reporter in the newsroom, and this was news that needed to appear ASAP. She then said, "Well, I take it back and I'll just call tomorrow."

I took great pleasure in telling her that I would be here tomorrow, so that wouldn't work. I also got to tell her that since I already had the info, I could run it regardless of what she said.

Of course, this was when she started in with, "Why are you treating me this way? My FATHER JUST DIED. Just do what I told you!" I said no. And also of course, she demanded my supervisor. I told her that he'd say the same thing, but she was welcome to talk to him.

GOD, but I hate this shit. I can't believe I'm saying this, but I'd rather deal with politicians than people like her. Politicians at least understand how newspapers work. I am so goddamn sick and tired of people like this woman calling up and presuming that they can tell me what to do!!! If you want a guarantee, pay for an ad. If you're asking for something for free, understand that you can't always get it the way you want it. And that it's not up to you!

Being the obituary writer would be fine if that was all I did. However, I have to deal with assholes like this woman EVERY SINGLE GODDAMNED DAY. People call me all the time and assume that I'm the classified advertising department, where they pay to put obits in. And they do this while holding the newspaper with both phone numbers and descriptions of where to call for what! Ignorant, demanding, bitchy people call up every day, and I have to be nice to all of them. THIS IS NOT WHAT I'M HERE FOR. I am a reporter. I write stories. I am NOT the front desk receptionist!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Seriously, if my department head makes me run the info from the Biatch from Hell on Sunday, I'm quitting. Who cares if I can't eat or pay rent if I quit? I honestly can't take this anymore, and it has nothing to do with how I feel about newspapers. My current job has been so perverted over the years that it is no longer a position for a REAL JOURNALIST.

GOD, I HATE THIS PLACE. AND THIS JOB.
